Ayurveda, the Indian healing tradition based on the knowledge of life and the interconnectedness of all things. It has been proven that treating the whole person leads to greater balance and well-being, so we consider the effects of our products not only on hair or skin, but on body, mind and emotion.
Aveda’s relationship with Ayurveda began in 1978, thanks to two renowned Ayurvedic physicians and scholars, Drs. Vinod and Kusum Upadhyay. Globally sought for their expertise in Ayurvedic medicine, pharmacology, botanical research and aromatherapy, they brought 1,000s of years of Vedic and Ayurvedic tradition to bear on Aveda’s work. Their guidance first helped Aveda identify botanical actives for our products, allowed us to pioneer “functional aromas”, and helped us launch innovative, powerful plant derived formulas such as Outer Peace™ Acne Relief skin care.
As Aveda’s green ingredient promise, they continually strive to increase their use of naturally derived ingredients, i.e. those in which more than 50% of the molecule comes from a plant, non-petroleum mineral, or other natural source, like water. They set other standards for use, too, like avoiding certain types of processing.
Aveda’s standards have made us a pioneer in the green cosmetics world: now more than 90% of our essential oils and 89% of our raw herbal ingredients* are certified organic.
Davines was founded in Parma, Italy in 1983 by the Bollati family. The Davines Group started as a research laboratory, producing high-end hair care products for renowned cosmetic companies worldwide. After a decade of honing their expertise, they began creating their own brand of Davines hair care products exclusively for salons, and in 1996 founded [ comfort zone ] skin care for premier spas.
More than two decades later, the Davines community spans over 75 countries, thousands of salons and hundreds upon hundreds of passionate hairdressers. Although they continue to grow, with headquarters in Parma, New York City, Paris, London, and Mexico City, their roots are firmly planted in their beginnings as a family-owned research laboratory guided by the same desire for quality products with an authentic approach and timeless appeal. They will never sell-out to a larger corporation and their formulas will never be compromised.
Davines produces some of the best-quality products on the planet, with attention and respect given to our environment. They use high-grade, natural ingredients, and apply scientific rigor to every product to guarantee customers’ safety. Even in the packaging, each Davines product is sustainably packaged in environmentally friendly, recyclable materials.
Six years ago, with the collaboration of LifeGate, Davines adopted a zero impact policy (carbon-neutral). LifeGate’s Zero Impact Project
To date, through the Zero Impact ® project, the group Davines has offset more than 2,000,000 pounds of CO2 contributing to the creation and protection of forests in Italy, Costa Rica and Madagascar. This is only part of Davines’ business collaboration with LifeGate, as they extended to environmental projects that directly involve salons, such as the Sustainable Beauty Day, which will come to life for the third time, on Oct. 21, 2013.
Davines’ commitment to sustainability is evidenced by twenty projects that protect internal consistency and continuity of this value at all stages of business and product life. With one of these, the “Ecomille”, Davines has won the “Product Stewardship Award, 2011” in order to have reduced by 33.3% of the plastic bottles litre line Davines / Essential Haircare. Among others, the Charter for Sustainable Research, which is inspired by the Laboratory of Research and Development for the choice of eco-friendly ingredients, gives attention to the environmental impact and safety of the consumer. Davines continues to use 100% renewable energy since 2006.
